About Cincinnati Artist TOM TSUCHIYA

Tom is best known for his public art including the plaques for the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York and the larger-than life bronzes of Cincinnati Reds players at Great American Ball Park.

Because of his passion for our environment, Tom has created a new kind of art: the recycling receptacle sculpture, including the innovative, award-winning Atlas Recycled. As an advocate for STEAM, Tom created a variant of Atlas at Imperial College, London in 2016 with the assistance of science students from around the world. In addition, he has held solo exhibitions of his receptacle works in New York City and Washington, DC.

Tom is a Cincinnati native whose parents are from Japan. In 2023, he celebrated his heritage by exhibiting a sculpture of his interpretation of the three wise monkeys at Music Hall during the performances of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly.

He is a Distinguished Alumnus of the University of Cincinnati (A & S ’95) and an apprentice of noted artist Carin Hebenstreit.
